Entity Linking (EL) associates the entities mentioned in a given input text
with their corresponding knowledge-base (KB) entries. A recent EL trend is
towards multilingual approaches. However, one may ask: are multilingual EL
approaches necessary with recent advancements in machine translation? Could we
not simply focus on supporting one language in the EL system and translate the
input text to that language? We present experiments along these lines comparing
multilingual EL systems with their results over machine translated text.
