Awareness on the students' progress in a face-to-face classroom is studied. In particular, the type of course being supported is a laboratory for learning basic computer tools such as Excel or Matlab. The specific aspect under consideration is the provision of awareness to the teacher so that she may intervene to help students overcome a difficulty which does not let them continue with the laboratory work. A computer tool for this purpose is presented. The tool is applicable to this scenario. A test was done in which the tool was transparent to the students and gave awareness for teacher's intervention. The tool can be used with other applications or systems as well, provided these systems have an appropriate API.
